The number of proteomics projects that address basic biological problems is now large and continues to grow. This part reflects the widespread use of the term "proteomics", which encompasses not only large-scale biotechnology research, but also projects that use 2DE, MS, or other technology systems to study proteins. Extending from Proteomics is one of the most important themes in general biology to explore the nature of genetic and protein relationships. In the Klose and companion Mice Proteome Project, hundreds of mice genes were positioned on the chromosome based on protein diversity. These studies show that many protein modifications are associated with specific genes, so a protein should be considered not one but a phenotype of many genes. Similarly, a gene mutation can affect many proteins. Ultimately, the study will help to understand more maturely the relationship between genes and cell function in health and disease.
